Turning Grade for High Speed, High Feed Machining of Steel

Sumitomo has developed new turning grade AC8115P for high speed and high feed machining of steel. The grade is highlighted by the gold colored insert for improved tool management and enhanced Al2O3 layer that offers increased wear and chipping resistance. The AC8115P provides stable and longer tool life in applications involving 5120 steel and 4140 steel, among others, for applications such as CVT parts, transmission parts, bearings or rotor shafts, according to the company.
AC8115P is especially suited for high speed turning of low to high carbon steel. Other features for the new grade include good chipping resistance from a hard layer, which reduces initial wear, and a new substrate with increased plastic deformation resistance.
