Holemaking, Finishing Cutting Tool Solutions

Allied Machine and Engineering will showcase a variety of tooling solutions at EASTEC in booth 5453. Among those being highlighted are the M geometry for multiple drills as well as Wohlhaupter boring tools and ALVAN reamers by S.C.A.M.I.

The T-A Pro high penetration drilling system is a comprehensive solution when it comes to holemaking. With T-A Pro's ISO-material class M geometry and proprietary margin design paired with the AM460 coating, Allied Machine is able to provide a tool that offers low cutting forces, excellent penetration rates and long tool life in challenging stainless steels and heat resistant superalloys, the company reported. This insert geometry produces the best results with T-A Pro holders but is also compatible with T-A holders and is offered in Z-3 series with diameters ranging from 0.437" to 1.882" (11.10 mm to 47.80 mm).

Allied's GEN3SYS XT Pro high penetration drill, which has a diameter range of 0.4311" to 1.3780" (11.00 mm to 35.00 mm), also offers an M geometry insert that is designed for all 300 series, 400 series and super duplex stainless steels in addition to other hard-to-machine materials in the ISO M group. The M geometry insert with AM460 coating offers long tool life in stainless steel applications. With a substrate that provides a balance of toughness and wear resistance necessary to excel in stainless steels, it is designed for improved chip formation while drilling high penetration rates.

The 4TEX indexable carbide drilling system has a design that increases core strength, resulting in improved hole size and straightness. The additional flute space coupled with dual-twisted coolant outlets improve penetration rates by enhancing coolant flow and generating greater chip evacuation. This indexable insert drill is suited for making shallow 2xD, 3xD and 4xD holes within the diameter range of 0.472" to 1.850" (12.00 m to 47.00 mm). Plus, 4TEX's M geometry insert-a tough M25 carbide substrate with a higher rake geometry-makes it suited for drilling applications in high-temperature alloys and stainless steels.

For hole finishing, Wohlhaupter precision boring tools are suited for applications involving high production, extreme tolerances and expensive parts. The 3ETECH+ digital readout module provides improved diameter adjustment accuracy of one micron on Wohlhaupter digital boring tools, making it an option for holding precision hole tolerances on expensive parts. High-production environments benefit from the enhanced digital readout module, which can be used on various Wohlhaupter boring tools, including VarioBore versatile boring heads, 420 (410) series boring heads, 465 (464) series balanced boring heads, 538 (537) fine boring cassettes, custom boring solutions and the ES-Bore series of fine boring lay down cartridges.

With replaceable head, cutting ring and monobloc styles, ALVAN reamers by S.C.A.M.I. help produce closer tolerances and dimensional accuracy of machined holes. These high-performance reamers also provide lower cost per hole through high penetration rates. Not only are ALVAN reamers suited for finishing holes in a production environment, but they can also prove to be an alternative to finish boring by providing more consistent hole sizes and lower cycle times, the company reported.
