Future-Ready Virtual Robot Controller

The combination of KUKA System Software (KSS), state-of-the-art technology stacks, and the latest web technologies offers new possibilities.

iiQKA.OS2 is AI-capable and ready for ISO 10218:2025.

KUKA Robotics has introduced the new iiQKA.OS2 operating system.

The scalable, customizable iiQKA.OS2 operating system includes a complete virtual robot controller (VRC). AI-capable, ready for the new ISO 10218:2025, and cyber-resilient, it is designed to future-proof digital manufacturing.

"Due to the web-based user interface and the possibility of using both your own teach pendants and the KUKA smartPAD, the robot controller with iiQKA.OS2 is easier and more accessible than ever," said a company spokesperson.

The spokesperson continued: "iiQKA.OS2 combines the best of two worlds-the proven core of the KUKA System Software (KSS) and the modern user interface with modular safety-meeting important automation requirements. Built with a contemporary tech stack using the latest web technologies, the new OS delivers expanded functionality, enhanced user experience, and streamlined workflows."

iiQKA.OS2 is engineered to not only enhance the efficiency of production automation, but also simplify it. The web-based user interface, iiQKA.UI, along with customizable application modules, enables companies and production facilities of all sizes-from small and medium-sized businesses to OEMs-to easily integrate virtual and real robot controllers, the company reported. The portfolio includes realistic load data analysis, the development of customer-specific software packages, and comprehensive simulation.

Changes and adjustments can also be made quickly without physical hardware. In combination with the advanced all-in-one engineering suite iiQWorks, iiQKA.OS2 enables the simulation of multiple robots and their peripherals. As a result, project schedules are adhered to, resources used efficiently, and systems put into operation more quickly.

With the new operating system, all KUKA robot kinematics can be operated with the same system by means of the KR C5 and KR C5 micro controllers for iiQKA.OS2-from Delta and Scara robots to 6-axis robots of all payload capacities.

The system's "bring your own device" feature eliminates the need for a proprietary KUKA teach pendant. Using the KUKA smartPLUG, users can connect a standard tablet via USB to intuitively program and operate robots through the iiQKA.UI interface.

iiQKA.OS2 can detect errors at an early stage due to various engineering functions such as simulation, offline programming, and comprehensive tests in a virtual environment.

The optional expansion board from NVIDIA, available with the KR C5 and KR C5 micro for iiQKA.OS2, enables the integration of AI for vision applications. In addition, the system will be ready for the new ISO 10218:2025, cyber-resilient and IEC 62443-certified-and therefore equipped for future challenges.
